Merseyside Police – DC Michael Moran
A tenacious detective who brought two historic child sex offenders to justice has been nominated for a top award.
Operation Hounslow was an investigation concerning vulnerable female child victims who were trafficked within Liverpool during 2013 and 2014. The victims were sexually and criminally exploited by adult men at multiple locations, including hotels.
During 2015, DC Michael Moran attended a drama/workshop presentation on Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). One of the victims who had reported sexual abuse during 2014,
DC Moran resurrected the investigation and then made contact with three victims, only two would pursue their complaint. He progressed the investigation uncovering essential additional evidence.
Two suspects faced trial in November 2016, but the jury were unable to reach a decision and therefore a re-trial date was set, which occurred the year. Following the re-trial, the jury returned with unanimous verdicts and both defendants were sentenced to 12-years each.

The work that we, as Detectives, carry out is very much behind the scenes but the sense of achievement and pride we feel when we bring criminals to justice, especially for the victims, makes it all worthwhile.
“I feel honoured to be able to do the job that I do and appreciative that my work, and the work of my detective colleagues up and down the country, is being recognised.”
