Award: Detective Investigation of the Year
West Yorkshire – DCI Inspector Stuart Spencer, DI Andy Cass and Operation Panderwick Team
A team of detectives from West Yorkshire Police who investigated the murder of a woman after her charred body was discovered in woodland have been nominated for a National Detectives’ Award.
Operation Panderwick was led by Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Spencer and his team, who collected hundreds of exhibits from a number of scenes, trawled through hours and hours of CCTV. Using innovative ideas, they worked with West Yorkshire Fire Service to reconstruct part of the murder.
The trial lasted nine weeks and two defendants were found guilty of murder and sentenced to twenty-two years each in prison.
DCI Spencer, who led the investigation said: “Having accumulated 29 years police service, I am extremely proud to say “I am a career detective”, my proudest moment still remains, achieving my Detective status.
"I have had the pleasure working in; Serious Organised Crime, Murder Investigation Teams, Counter Terrorism and specialist covert teams, on such high profile cases such as Jo Cox murder.
"I am, on a daily basis, filled with pride working with Detective teams who are professional and dedicated in successfully bringing dangerous individuals to justice and protecting the vulnerable within our communities.
It is refreshing, within todays policing environment, that those teams are recognised nationally for the outstanding work they do on a daily basis.”
